Uncaged...Red Blend from North Coast

So I opened a 2013 Z Alexander Brown, Uncaged Red Blend from North Coast, and I will say that I wasn't impressed at all with the first taste. It seemed young and the taste was just a little awkward.
However, a few nights before, I took a good friend of mine to a wine tasting and they let you keep the glass. Come to find out, an entire bottle of wine can fit in that glass. (His wife a couple of nights later proved it was possible.) So i poured some of the Uncaged into it and let it sit for a few and then went after it again, and here's what I found.
After letting it sit for a little while (maybe half an hour) it started to open up and soften. The bite that was at the start smoothed out, and while there was still a little, it wasn't much and it did add
to the wines overall experience. The middle was actually pretty smooth throughout the entire time. The finish I think changed the most. It went from a very spicy, not enjoyable finish to a smooth, enjoyable finish with very little aftertaste.
So the bottom line is pretty simple. It's would make a great supporting bottle (Especially for under 20 bucks) . If you get this bottle or one of it's younger siblings, be sure and decant it for a little while before drinking.
